I can’t tell you what a joy gardening has been for me over the past few years now. As a child, my parents and grandparents encouraged gardening summer after summer, but I simply never took an interest.
I’ll never forget the excitement I felt when I got my KitchenAid stand mixer. My mom had it delivered to me as an early birthday gift five years ago. I’d dreamed of owning my own stand mixer for years, knowing it would up my baking game, and have used it on a regular basis ever since.
It feels like I was just reporting on the progress of our garden, but looking back at those photos from only a few weeks ago has me floored at what a difference such a short amount of time can make. Nearly everything has tripled in size and we’ve already begun harvesting and enjoying much of it.
June has flown right on by and I’ve barely had time to tend to our garden, let alone share any updates on its progress! I got a pretty late start on getting things in the ground this year, compared to the past couple of years, and was so worried that we’d have little-to-no starts to choose from and that what we did plant wouldn’t be able to catch up and be ready to harvest before the first frosts of fall.
There’s nothing quite like that feeling of quenching super dry lips, am I right? Especially that moment when, after they’ve been bothering you for hours and you were without lip balm on hand to soothe them, you finally get to swipe on the relief! Ahhh.
